A New Year with a new look!

The Safety is Sexy Campaign has been booming with activity in 2007 - Thanks to your support!

Over the past year we have sent out more than 3000 stickers to people throughout the States, Canada, the UK, France and Brazil. With more than 20 requests a day in recent weeks, The Safety is Sexy Campaign is excited to sit down and think about our wish list for 2008:
  • Expand 'You'd look hotter in a helmet' merchandise to include t-shirts and sweatshirts

  • Offer bike tours and other fun-fundraisers

  • Find additional sources of funding - like grants (any suggestions!?)

  • Expand the campaign beyond the internet

Call for Submissions

Helllllo Artists!

The Safety is Sexy Campaign wants to feature YOUR art! We are looking for artists to create work based on the phrase "You'd look hotter in a helmet." (An example is the illustration that Jason Polan did for this blog back in February)

So here's the deal:

1. Get inspired by helmets! Ohhh yeah...

2. Make some art!

3. E-mail an image of the original artwork to safetyissexy@gmail.com

4. We'll post it on the blog. In addition, at your request, we can post your contact info, bio, website, etc., so people visiting the blog can contact you directly if they like your work!

5. Based on the feedback, The Safety is Sexy Campaign would like to buy some or all of the works created. We'll contact you at that point and you can name your price!

6. And we'll send you a bunch of stickers, of course. Just remember to forward your snail mail address.

You'd look brighter with some lighters...

Tel from Boston wrote to say:
I kept seeing the stickers around town. I finally asked someone where he got his, he said he came out to find it on his bike, so he stuck it his helmet. With that dead end, I googled you. As a former no helmet rider I fell in love with the sticker as soon as I saw it. Dead or TBI is terribly unsexy, really. Saw a dude in black with no light and no helmet cycling this evening. He topped it all offf by passing right turning traffic at Mass. Ave and Comm. on the right. Hope he made it home alive. Thanks for your great campaign.

Greetings from San Diego!

Comment from Chuck Northrup, member of the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition:
This is a brilliant idea. I can't tell you how many times I've felt nauseous just looking at someone not wearing a helmet--would you leave your house naked? Would you go on an arctic expedition without a parka? Would you play baseball without a cup [sorry ladies]? Would you bake cookies without potholders? I sure as heck wouldn't get into a car without putting on a seatbelt so how could i ride a bike without a HELMET? I will ride with one or more on my bike, maybe one on my helmet, give them to my riding neighbors and friends, and give them to the poor schmucks who think riding without a helmet is cool and attractive--there's nothing attractive about a brain-damaged, drooling, spoon-fed person in a vegetative state (just ask my wife the psychologist). Thanks for listening to me and thanks for the conversation starters.
